"Ich – Du – Wir" (I – You – We) – In the Fabric of Relationships, Literature is like a Seismograph. Relationships can take many forms, but no two are the same: there is the loving mother, tormented by agonizing doubts, in Jessica Lind's novel Kleine Monster. There is the benefactor who donates money but remains a stranger, in Stefanie Gerhold’s historical novel Das Lächeln der Königin. There is the friendship between two people that falters when both suddenly need support, in Paula Fürstenberg’s novel Weltalltage. Even the feeling we call Heimat (homeland) is unthinkable without relationships. But how do those whose pride is trampled in their new Heimat fare? Behzad Karim Khani asks this question in his original novel about homeland, Als wir Schwäne waren. The narrative voice in Sara Klatt’s debut novel Das Land, das ich dir zeigen will searches for the meaning of belonging in Israel. The relationship with those who do not see the homeland but rather a photogenic tourist destination is at the center of Dominika Meindl’s debut Selbe Stadt, anderer Planet.
