What began as an experiment in 2008 has now become a permanent part of our program. The auction took place regularly until 2019, followed by a turbulent period with the pandemic and the move. Despite this, we have successfully carried out projects like Chaircity, Perpetuum Mobile 1 and 2, Artist Plates, and 24 Doors. However, the auction has remained in many people's memories, and we are frequently asked about it. Now, we are happy to relaunch the auction in a new, innovative format that aligns with the goals of SKB ARTES, where the artist is at the center of attention.
The 11th Edition: Focus on Encounter and Time
For the 2024 auction, we invite all members from all disciplines to participate, not just with artworks, but with the opportunity for personal encounters with their artistic practices. In this edition, it is not just about a classic sale – time is the central focus: the auction winners will receive not only an artwork from the artist but also the chance to gain direct insight into the artist's work environment, life, and creative process.
The Format: Meet the Artist
This is a unique event where artists from all disciplines are presented in a special format at SKB ARTES on one evening. The highlight of the evening will be the auction, where the highest bidder not only receives an artwork but also a personal experience with the artist: what this experience will be will be defined by the artist in advance. It could be a studio visit, a reading, an audio performance, a shared meal, a walk, or... the possibilities are limited only by the artist's imagination.
Time and encounter are at the forefront, and art becomes tangible and personal. Depending on the amount bid, the artist will select a suitable work that reflects the value of the auction, but the artwork will not be known to the bidder beforehand.
Conditions for Participation

SKB members from all disciplines can participate, regardless of the medium (drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, audio or text, performance).

In addition to a proposal for the personal encounter, a brief description of the planned project in the form of a letter to the potential bidders, beginning with "I invite you to..." is required. This letter should explain how the time together will be used and what the bidder can expect.

If the artist does not have a private space or studio for the meeting, they can use the Frei.Raum as a presentation and meeting space.
Process and Presentation
The letters and photos will be presented in the rooms of SKB ARTES. The photos will be printed in large format and transformed into experiential spaces. The photo installations aim to introduce the artist and put the focus on the encounter by exploring the creative process and personal approach of each artist through image and text.
Participation and Criteria
Open to all members.
Application via:
- A letter beginning with "I invite you to..." and briefly describing the use of the time together.
- A representative photo in high resolution, size 100 x 170 cm (landscape or portrait), ideally showing the artist with a work or while working.
- A fully completed application form.
If there is a high number of applicants, a selection will be made.

Communication
The event will be widely covered by the media to increase the visibility of the artists and their works. In addition to promotion in print and online media, there will also be a presentation on SKB ARTES' social media channels.
Sales Conditions
The starting price will be set by the organizers. Payment will be made from the bidder to the seller. SKB acts as the organizer and will receive 10% of the final auction price.
