Prelude
To promote young art, Transart, Museion, and the Südtiroler Künstlerbund present a 2-part intervention by the young artist Silvia Hell.
PRELUDE is the first solo exhibition of this young artist from Eppan / Appiano, who has shifted her residence to Milan. The exhibition refers to the commissioned piece Wind Pressure Concert, which will premiere on September 19, 2019 at the Museion in the framework of Transart and simultaneously provides visitors with a glimpse of Hell's overall work.
Silvia Hell undertakes research in various areas of everyday life by collecting, understanding, and probing data and facts from scientific and historical sources in order to then translate them into her own visual language.
The exhibition, entitled PRELUDE, presents several groups of work and represents an expansion of the solo exhibition Increasing The Wind Pressure which was presented in March of 2018 in the A + B Gallery in Brescia.
Technical records on air quality in Milan from 1972 to 2017 were taken and encrypted visually. Hell thus employs raw data to develop an emotive pictorial language.
PRELUDE oscillates between the technical boundaries of reproduction and the artist's own unauthorized trespassing into the act of representation. Hell invites the public to use all of their senses in appreciating her works. A mute sound fills the spaces in which – as in any story or narrative – an undefinable mass in the descriptive mechanism is present in some manner or another. With the special use of ancient and contemporary technical standards of models and instruments developed to preserve individual and specific memories, the exhibition presents itself like a concert held in a sound-proofed room. Perhaps one can hear something from the outside corridor, as the title of one exhibited piece hints.
With Hell, values are shifted in a systematically poetic fashion in order to communicate complex quantities of data in an aesthetic form, with the clarity and simplicity of visual intuition.
The exhibition will be opened on September 14, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gallery Prisma in Bozen/Bolzano and will remain open to the public until October 4, 2019.
Gallery Prisma: Tuesday – Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Wind Pressure Concert is a concert for piano and projection on the subject of air. Silvia Hell's piece "Luft Mailand 1972 – 2017 / Luft Bozen 2008 – 2017" is a visualized chronology of seven potential contaminants which were detected and measured in the air of Milan and Bozen / Bolzano.
The special verbal imagery developed by Hell to visualize the pollution is taken by the pianist Enrico Pompili, re-coded, and interpreted.
