The Red Boat: Artists Against Violence Towards Women

25.11.-10.12.2024
SKB ARTES

A social art project and exhibition by the Südtiroler Künstlerbund and the Erlebnis Pragser Wildsee Association in collaboration with the Provincial Council for Equal Opportunities.

The postcard-perfect view of the stunning natural landscape of Lake Pragser is charged with a boat drifting on the water. This signal-red object stands as a memorial against violence towards women. Eighteen artists express their solidarity through interventions around this powerful symbol, calling for shared social, societal, and political responsibility to support and protect women.

The proceeds from the 18-piece set of art postcards (edition of 1500) will be fully donated to a victim of violence.

Participating Artists:
Gino Alberti + Katrin Böge, AliPaloma, Julia Bornefeld, Wil-ma Kammerer, Ingrid Klauser, Brigitte Knapp, Hubert Kostner, Sophie Lazari, Katharina Theresa Mayr, Sissa Micheli + Thomas Riess, Indra Moroder, Elisabeth Oberrauch + Simone Oberrauch + Massimo Bertinelli, Laura Pan in collaboration with Valeria Befani and Silvia Quatrocchi, Lissy Pernthaler, Petra Polli + Giancarlo Lamonaca, Sylvie Riant, Werner Seidl, Matthias Schönweger

The young artist Indra Moroder was awarded the "Red Boat – Against Violence Towards Women" prize.

In her autobiographical performance "Floating Angel", the artist presents herself as a shadow of her former self on the boat while releasing a floating angel into the water. "Angels have no blood; they consist of a substance that resembles liquid light." The body of the female-associated textile figure is painted with flowing colors. The work metaphorically represents rebirth, closeness to the victims, and offers hope.
